Testimonials

I loved this book.

“... It was exactly what I was looking for ten years ago when I attended by first weight watchers meeting. During the meeting a member would stand up and share a helpful insight from their experience; like not going grocery shopping when they were hungry or drinking a glass of water when they felt like they needed to put something into their mouth. But there was no place to turn for a hundred and one of these helpful little insights about what has worked for someone else and even more importantly an introduction to an approach for gaining insight into what motivates me to overeat and increases my awareness and options for choosing something different.”

Discover Creative New Insights

Are you frustrated because old advice to stop overeating hasn't worked?

Here's the reason: Diet plans and tip lists on how to stop overeating and dieting suffer from this basic flaw:

They do not empower you to discover your own best solutions to end overeating.

If shortcuts and unrealistic tips aren’t the answer to overeating, what is? You are the answer, with your own insights!

Insights lead the way to end old habits such as relying on rigid diet plans to deal with overeating and related weight gain.

Insights are those "Aha" moments. When you connected the dots - when pieces of a perplexing problem suddenly fell into place.

Here's the fun part: You don't need any new skills to find fresh insights. Insight learning is a major way that we've learned about the world since childhood. Now you can apply creative insights to overcome overeating.

Which insights provide the most help for overeating? Those that help you uncover issues affecting how and why you eat.

How to get started with insights for overcoming overeating

Step 1: Identify a specific aspect related to overeating that you want to resolve.Small, do-able steps lead to big results.

Here's an example:

  • "My overeating problem is snacking on junk food in the afternoon when I take a break."

[Notice we did not say, "I want to stop overeating" ... that problem is far too large to manage with one attempt.]

Step 2: Recall specific strategies you previously used to solve your overeating episode.

  • Example: "When I took a break, I tried telling myself, "Just stop" But that hasn't helped!

Step 3: Is there a mental, spiritual or emotional aspect of overeating that you may have overlooked?

Suppose that even a tiny fraction of your immediate problem related to overeating does not concern your diet, the food you eat or the weight you’ve gained. Consider asking yourself, What was I thinking and what was I feeling that lead me to overeat?
  •   Example: "I overate this afternoon when I felt lonely. My thought was.... I have too much to do and no one supports me."

Step 4: Let your fresh Insights from step 2-3 inspire a specific, do-able goal.

  • Take a break to let your intuition and creativity develop a new solution. You might take a short walk, listen to relaxing music, or "sleep on it."
  • Why didn't old approaches to stop overeating work out? In our example, an underlying negative emotion - loneliness - triggered overeating (snacking). What are some ways that you could handle the feeling without overeating? Benefit: Insights into what triggers overeating will help you feel more in charge.
  • What specific, Insight-inspired action will you take to resolve this very specific issue you identified?
  • Example: "I will call my best friend and share my feeling of loneliness with her."

The power of your Insights to stop overeating may surprise you! Every Insight-inspired action you take can help to bring you closer to freedom from overeating.
